Spi(Cy-Fi)lms is a film festival and an outstretched hand from the artist Cy-Fi to you. These film screenings create solidarity between Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) from NYC along with building a platform for QTPOC to create media that is dynamic and representative of us. Our first event was held at the BronxArtSpace as part of the exhibition “For Us.” The film “Left Unsaid” by Cy-Fi was screened alongside other QTPOC artists, followed by a discussion and live video art performances. These pieces all challenge traditional media by creating “new media” that is expansive, and blurs the lines between film/art/video/music/performance. Since our first event, we have had our work exhibited at Eyebeam and Abrons Art Center through the BUFU Eyedream residency, film screenings at MetaDen and free online classes through Spicy Zine.
